Have your say on the future of Cheltenham Borough, Gloucester City, and Tewkesbury Borough

New engagement on the Strategic and Local Plan (SLP) is live. The SLP will guide how our area grows over the next 20 years.
Explore key topics like housing, jobs, infrastructure, and green space at strategiclocalplan.org. Some papers are for reading; others you can share your views on.
Workshops with local groups will also help shape the conversation, and all feedback will help make sure that future growth reflects what our communities really need.
The engagement runs until June 2026, with the final plan due to be submitted during October/November 2026.

SAFE DRIVING

Tewkesbury Borough Council and Ubico have launched a new safety campaign to promote safe driving, especially during winter when adverse weather and dark mornings reduce visibility. Drivers are urged to be cautious and patient around waste and recycling crews due to reports of dangerous behavior like overtaking, stopping too close, and mounting pavements.

Cllr Sarah Hands, Lead Member for Environmental Services, emphasized the need for cooperation from all road users to ensure safety for Ubico crews, who wear high-visibility clothing. Rob Heath, Ubico Operations Director, encouraged reporting dangerous driving incidents, and Robert Vestey from Gloucestershire Police highlighted the effectiveness of dashcam footage in addressing such offenses. Drivers can submit dashcam evidence through the Op Snap portal to aid in taking appropriate action.

To report non-collision incidents, visit the Operation Snap link at www.operationsnap.gloucestershire.pol.

How can the Bishop’s Cleeve council improve walking and cycling facilities in Bishop’s Cleeve

Travelers in and around Bishop’s Cleeve are encouraged to share their thoughts on how walking and cycling in the area can be improved. The council is working on a 26-mile cycle spine connecting Stroud to Bishop’s Cleeve through Gloucester and Cheltenham. To make the most of this route, they aim to ensure that local cycling facilities help residents connect to it. Feedback will help identify challenges and opportunities, shaping a strategy for future funding and improvements. Residents can participate in an online survey to share comments and pinpoint areas for enhancement on a map. The survey runs from Friday 20 January to Friday 17 February and can be found at gloucestershire.gov.uk/LCWIP. There will also be events where people can talk to officers, suggest changes, and learn more about cycling locally. The next event is an online session on Thursday 9 February from 6pm to 7pm. Councillor David Gray emphasized the importance of the cycle spine for tackling the climate emergency and urged residents to provide feedback to improve local facilities.
