GOWNS

Gotherington Oxenton Woolstone Neighbour Scheme
What is it?

The good neighbour scheme is a voluntary initiative run by the residents of Gotherington, Oxenton and Woolstone. It provides assistance to local people, particularly those who are elderly or disabled.

What services are offered?
We offer practical help:
With transport: for activities such as shopping, collecting pensions and prescriptions, doctors and hospital appointments and attending village functions.
In the home: minor household repairs and maintenance, and help with internet usage. We cannot undertake tasks which require professional expertise.

The scheme is operated by a team of co-ordinators, who hold the scheme’s mobile phone for a week at a time. Anybody requiring help can telephone this mobile number and the co-ordinator on duty will make every effort to arrange for the task to be carried out by a volunteer. All calls and results are logged.

Volunteers are CRB checked and insured. No charge is made other than 40p per mile.
